CAVING THE ULTIMATE EXTREME SPORT

Bored of the same old routine? Realised that you're not doing anything exciting with your time in Cardiff? Fed up of being ignored by the elitist element in your club or society? Don't panic: the Caving Club is here!

Ian Holmes in CoventosaWe're a non-elitist group of boys and girls who share our time (almost) equally between pubs and caves. Our members range from rock-hard expedition-types to sissies who exist to prop up the bar. A few of them are a bit weird, but most are the sort of person that you wouldn't be embarrassed to hang around with! You do not have to be "Outdoor-Eddie" to get along with us, as we accept beer from anyone....

We're always seeking fresh meat, and still organise trips for complete beginners whenever necessary.

Every Wednesday we take groups up to the Brecon Beacons (followed by a curry in Cardiff), and most weekends we head off to Yorkshire, Derbyshire, or the Mendips. We regularly organise evening training sessions at the Climbing Wall, where we focus on the vertical side of caving. The highlight of the year is our involvement in a big, multinational caving expedition to Austria, where we're exploring some of the deepest caves in the world. Many of our members go on this, regardless of experience levels.

We meet in The End on Thursday nights (8.30 onwards) and promise not to ignore or laugh at you if you turn up on your own!

We also have many contacts with ex-student cavers and other cavers in the Cardiff area. If you're not a student, don't worry, come and meet us and you'll find loads of other non-student cavers.

New Year At The Yss
Posted By: kate @ Dec 12 2007, 06:18 PM
Hi Guys!

Details for new year.

Let Rhys know asap if you are coming AND GIVE HIM DATES!

The YSS is booked for those of you that have already confirmed dates. Those of you who have said you are coming but not given dates please also contact Rhys.

General Info.

Everyone is responsible for bringing their own kit. You may borrow it from the kitstore but make sure you let me know what you intend to take. Those of you that can't get to the kitstore before the new year also let me know so that I can organise someone picking the kit up for you. LET ME KNOW SOON.

Kit needed for Yorkshire Caving;

1. The usual; wellies, helmet, belt, oversuit
2. SRT kit. This is a must. Make sure they're complete!
3. WARM CLOTHES! It is FREEZING in Yorkshire at this time of the year! Hats, Gloves, Fleeces etc

You will also need a sleeping bag, clothes for day use, toiletries, money for pub and a fancy dress costume for new years!

Food is not provided. You will need to organise this yourself, but we'd suggest cooking etc in small groups. The pub is next door and serves food so bring extra money if you want to eat out.

Transport;

Again you need to sort this out yourselves. There are some cars going from Cardiff so if you email Rhys he will be able to help. Let Rhys know if you are driving yourself, so that we can offer car spaces to people.

Think that is everything, if anyone has any questions reply or phone Rhys!

Whitewalls & First Aid Training Wknd - Dec. 7-9th
Posted By: matthewtraver @ Dec 5 2007, 10:42 PM
Hello all,

Yet another message to fill your inbox – remember this weekend we’ll be away at Whitewalls for the first aid training. Be sure to let me know you’re coming if you haven’t already. Also for anybody that hasn’t paid the deposit of £15 for the training, if you could bring it to the meal that would be much appreciated. All the details on the course and general information on the weekend can be found here, http://muddydragons.co.uk/board/index.php?...ct=ST&f=1&t=701 – any questions, get in touch. For anybody that is coming up on the Saturday morning we will be starting 10am sharp (seriously, no joke…) with the training so try to get there on time!

Also as mentioned before, even if you aren’t doing the training obviously still feel free to come along and go caving - there’ll be a number of people up there that weekend doing just that. If you want to join in on Sunday for the practical session underground, but aren’t attending Saturday’s training session that’s no problem again – the more the merrier and the greater pickings we have for who plays casualty…

See you soon,

Matt – CUCC.

T-shirts Are Ready
Posted By: matthewtraver @ Dec 4 2007, 05:52 PM
Hey guys,

Just passing this message on for Knobby - the T-shirts for this year are finally ready for you to pick up. It has taken a long while for them to get here as the printers were unreliable arses. We’ve got a list of who put their name down for a T-shirt, some of you paid a deposit of £5, but for those that haven’t the full cost is £10. We’ll start handing them out at the X’mas dinner on Thursday, so please come get yours. We’re hoping to get rid of these by the end of next week as payment for the T-shirts have come out of our own pockets and the money is needed ASAP!!!

For any new members that have signed up this year, these T-shirts are from last year, but of course if you’re interested in buying one let us know. They are groovy indeed.

Matt.
